The lyrics for this song were written on an Amtrak train leaving NYC after a couple of days visiting the city (my hometown) with my family during the Christmas holiday crunch. I realized I was left feeling very restless and kind of empty and disillusioned after the trip. Walking through this epic city where I was born and spent all of my formative years. The walk alongside throngs of strangers from around the nation and the world starting at Rockefeller Center up Fifth Avenue into Central Park became a sad dark scene in my mind as we all pay tribute to the “unattainable opulence” of Saks Fifth Ave., Disney, etc. As a native New Yorker with deep knowledge of Central Park, ending up at Ai Wei Wei’s Gilded Cage installation in Central Park was ironic and inspirational. The lyrics for this song came to me all at once, it was complete by the time my journey out of NYC ended.
